How the free 20 a week works

The Mac app counts one use each time the hotkey or clean-as-you-copy cleans something for you — the two draw on one weekly count, and a copy with nothing to clean is not counted. The count lives on your Mac, resets every Monday, and is visible in the app — "14 of 20 free cleans this week", not a surprise at the twentieth.

Reaching the limit never interrupts a clean in progress: the next one is refused before anything is touched, and your clipboard is left exactly as it was. Pasting into the app’s own window is not metered, and neither is the view that shows what was removed.

What stays free, for good

Everything on this website: the cleaner, the document tools and the prose report, unlimited, with nothing uploaded.

The browser extension’s popup and right-click menu, unlimited, on every site.

The three tiles and the findings table — what was removed, what was kept because it was doing a job, what your settings did not touch. This is never gated.

Fixes and Unicode-table updates, on the same schedule as everything else.

Questions people actually ask

Does the Mac app need an internet connection?

Once, to turn your key into a licence. After that it is fully offline: the licence is checked on your Mac against a key built into the app, and nothing you clean is ever sent anywhere. If our licence server is down, an app that is already activated keeps working — only a new activation waits.

How many devices does one licence cover?

Up to 3 at a time. Re-activating a device the licence already knows — a reinstall, a restored backup — is free and does not use a slot. If you have replaced a machine, write to privacy@ghostchars.com and we will move the slot across.

Can I get a refund?

Write to privacy@ghostchars.com and we will refund a licence you are not happy with. A refunded licence stops activating new devices; the devices it already activated keep working, because the licence they hold is verified on your machine rather than against a server.

What do I lose if I never pay?

Nothing you have today. This website and the extension popup stay unlimited, the view that shows what was removed stays ungated, and the Mac app keeps cleaning 20 times a week through the hotkey and clean-as-you-copy — and without any limit in its own window.

Is there a Windows or iOS version?

Not yet, and this page will not pretend otherwise: wave one is macOS and the browser extension. What is promised is that one licence unlocks Pro on every surface Ghostchars ships, so a licence bought today is not a Mac-only purchase if that changes.
